Description : Wood, painted Ketou, republic Benin, West Africa, mid-20th century Yoruba people Mask for the mother festives Length: 31 cm Very good condition Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. The face of the white-colored mask wears on the forehead and the cheeks three incised, blue colored tattoos. On the head, the mask bears geometrically designed structures, similar to a crown, painted in blue, black, white and brown. The monkey-shaped half-head has two slits and a nose slot. These masks appear in the annualy, in the dry season, held large feast of the 'Gelede' -federation, held in honor of mothers.The mask is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear.
