Description : TWO EGYPTIAN GLAZED COMPOSITION MUMMY BEAD NECKLACES New Kingdom to Late Period, circa 1550-332 B.C. The first composed of cylindrical blue glazed composition beads terminating in a small terracotta shabti, 40cm long including the shabti, the other composed of small blue glazed composition cylindrical beads with bone spacers, terminating in a modern glass bead, 41cm long, both restrung, (2) Provenance: Frederick Allan Downes (1898-1974) collection, UK, formed in the first half of the 20th Century, and thence by descent to Peter Allan Downes (1921-1984) and the present owner. Frederick Allan Downes was an airship officer in the first World War, who went on to work in India on the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railways. During the second World war he served as Squadron leader Technical Branch, RAF. The collection was added to by his son, Peter Allan Downes, RN.
