Description : Tribal Art: Headdress egungun Yoruba, Nigeria wood, mat dark brown patina, a beautiful modelled face, a slightly curved nose with delicate inflated notstrils, linear scarification marks, marked in white paint 1994.4.97 on the backside, slightly dam., minor missing parts (lower rim), paint rubbed off, the egungun cult is closeley related with funeral ceremonies and rites for worshipping the ancestors. The masks are completed by elaborate colourful costumes of multi layered textile in alternating colours and patterns.
