Description : Friction oracle Lualwa, D. R. Kongo light brown wood, brown patina, consisting of two parts, lower part in form of a bisected cylindre, upper part in form of a laying human figure, min. dam., fissures, slight signs of usage, the Chokwe attribute the origin of this divination instrument to the Lunda people. It includes two small boards which are rubbed one upon another. Questions are posed as the two boards are rubbed together. If the upper part, which may represent a female figure, stops and is leaning over towards the diviner, the answer is negative. If the upper part suddenly stops, as if fixed to the lower board, and the diviner cannot move it towards him, the answer is positive. L: 14 cm, (5028/051) Provenance Coll.
