Description : RARE IBIBIO DANCE HEADDRESS, NIGERIA Carved wood female ancestor mask with four coiled hair crests, accented with kaolin and paint and adorned with a carved amulet, atop a double base with holes for regalia, retains fibers, early 20th c. Related to the similar Ekoi masks, the Ibibio show more realistic images and can often be distinguished by the neck ornament. (Provenance: Exhibited and published Baltimore Museum of Art, 1971-74, also ''African Art: Nature, Man, and Vital Force from the Collection of H.B. Greene and Family,'' Richard Madigan, Norton Gallery of Art, West Palm Beach, Fl., 1975).
