Description : African art. Throne, Luguru Tanzania. Wooden throne used by chiefs and high dignitaries during important cerimonies. Piece of fine execution, carved wood with dark patina. NOTE - For a similar specimen see: Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Luguru artist, high back stool, object number: 89-10-1. Provenance: Parisian collection of the painter Arturo Carmassi (Lucca 1925 - Empoli 2015). This piece had come through the inheritance of the collector and humanist Renèe Druart (Grasse 1888 - 1961) whose daughter Carmassi had married.. Cm 58,00 x 130,00.
