Description : This is a very rare example of African mask from Sierra Leone, west Africa. The Temne are a small ethnic group east of the Mende. During the civil unrest of the 1980's a handfull of these filed used village masks made their way to the market, They are not going to be found again. I have had only three ever. Carved wooden face mask painted black and green with classic Temne facial styles, note the neck rolls.
