Description : This wooden mask is made by the Dan-Kran in Ivory Coast. It has very pronounced features, like the long, straight nose and the broad forehead protruding from the mask. Next to the nose are small circular holes for the eyes and beneath the nose is a thin rectangular chin. On top of the mask are five horns. In Dan society, the masks are used during dance performances in which the man wearing the mask, experiences a dream sent by the mask spirit. The masks are thus spiritually charged. From 1978 until 1993 he worked at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he specialised in formal analysis of works of art.
