Description : Standing figure Dogon, Mali light brown wood, middle brown partly shiny patina, rising from shortened legs with bulky thighs, a long cylindrical torso with a protruding navel and angular shoulders merging into long free worked arms, the big hands are resting on the hips, a columnar neck is surmounted by an oval head with a broad chin, beneath a slightly bulging forehead with a headband there are circular protruding eyes flanking a bulky nose, an oval mouth and a chin-beard underneath, netlike raised scarification marks on the temples, min. dam., small missing parts (feet, beard), insect caused damage, cracks, on wooden base, according to Ezra the Dogon place their figures on a number of altars devoted to real or mythological ancestors. But only few of this altars could be explored or pictured en detail, nor are there informations how to identify the depicted. H: 43,5 cm, (4661/002)
