The drum originated from a West African village called Benge in the region of Korhogo in the northern Ivory Coast and dated from the middle of the 20th century. The corpus of the drum is carried by four feet and is adorned with figural motives. The brown shiny patina is very aesthetic. These drums were played with wooden beaters and were used to convene the villagers for manifestations and initiation rites as well as funerals. They can be used for many occasions, mostly with trumpet-, horn- and xylophone accompaniment. The deeply carved relief adornments are related to the fables of the Senufo. The drum is in very good condition with nice traces of use. One foot of the drum is broken off. The diameter of the drum is 52 cm, its height is 100 cm.
