Description : West Africa, Burkina Faso or Ivory Coast, Senufo, ca. 20th century CE. An evocative brass mask presenting a unique visage surmounted by a pair of downwards-curving horns. The ovoid vizard features openwork, half-circle eyes, pierced nostrils surrounded by twisted bands, and an open, ellipsoid mouth flanked by 3 raised, horizontal bands. Additional elevated lines adorn the top of the mask, forming a concentric lozenge-shaped motif, while 4 more vertically stripe the base of the horns. Size: 5.1 W x 7.9 H (13 cm x 20.1 cm) Provenance: ex-Sally Snell collection, bequeathed by her uncle Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
