Description : African, Gabon, Fang culture, 20th c. Percussive instruments are an important art form in Africa in addition to providing a source of music for ceremonial rituals. In this Fang piece the figure sitting on top of the form serves as a reliquary guardian. To play the rasp, the serrated area would be rubbed with a stick.
