Description : North Africa, Egypt, Middle Paleolithic Period, ca. 400,000 to 120,000 BCE. A knapped chert hand axe of beautiful form, painstakingly formed from a white chert into a nice bifacial blade or scraper tool. Along the Nile there are terraces with flint deposits that seem to have been frequented by Middle Paleolithic humans, who dug pits into the rich deposits and knapped the flint into cores for easy transport before leaving the area. Size: 5 L x 1.75 W (12.7 cm x 4.4 cm), 6 H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand. Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired at Dawson's Saleroom, UK, ex-private Bedfordshire, UK collection, before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
