Description : African art. Okoroshi oma mask, Ibo Nigeria . Ceremonial mask whitened with caolin (pemba) and stylized black coiffure. Artifact linked to the cult of Owu, the spirit of water. The Okoroshi Oma masks characterized by the white color and linked to femininity are worn during the ceremony as a counterpart to the Okoroshi Ojo masks, painted in dark and linked to the male part of the Owu cult. Provenance: Parisian collection of the painter Arturo Carmassi (Lucca, 1925- Empoli, 2015). This piece was inherited from the French humanist and collector Renée Druart (Grasse 1888-1961) whose daughter Carmassi had married. . Cm 30,00 x 16,50.
