Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NIKONDI FETISH/POWER FIGURE - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood figure with raised arm, multiple inserted nails, wrapped twine, isinglass eye coverings and a leather bound carbuncle. Many of these items have been added over time. A Nicondi is the most powerful of the Nkisi. They are seen as a vessel for harboring a spirit from the dead, with power to hunt down and punish wrongdoers. They are inspired to action with invoked and provoked invocations. Condition good, commensurate with age. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 12H
