Description : A nicely detailed Egyptian faience ushabti, Late Period, c. 664 - 343 BC, mummiform, wearing striated wig with lappets and false beard, arms folded across chest, hands holding a pick and hoe, undecorated bag over left shoulder, plinth down back and six remaining horizontal bands of text which continue onto each side. Very well detailed with excellent style and traces of green-blue glaze throughout. H: 5 ½ in (13.9 cm). Losses to the feet, mounted on an antique circular wood base. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
