Description : Africa, Mali, Bandiagara area, Upper Niger Region, Voltaic Culture, Ghimbala, ca. 9th to 13th century CE. Petite bronze horse with a bird with outspread wings and tailfeathers on its back, facing the opposite direction of the horse. All of the bronzes from the Pickard Collection and have been checked out with a museum expert on ancient bronze who worked for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Sackler Foundation. It is extremely rare to find small, ancient African bronzes that are authentic. These are the real deal! 3-1/8L.
Provenance: Ex-private Pickard Collection, Oklahoma City, OK, Mr. Pickard began collecting African art in 1959 following university study in Africa.
