Mackay - Ernest John Henry Mackay (5 July 1880 – 2 October 1943) was an archeologist from Bristol and is well known for his excavations and studies of Mohenjo-daro and other sites belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. [Courtesy Wikipedia], Flinders Petrie - Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, FRS (3 June 1853 – 28 July 1942), commonly known as Flinders Petrie, was an English Egyptologist and a pioneer of systematic methodology in archaeology and preservation of artifacts. He held the first chair of Egyptology in the United Kingdom, and excavated many of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt in conjunction with his wife, Hilda Petrie. Some consider his most famous discovery to be that of the Merneptah Stele, an opinion with which Petrie himself concurred. Condition / Notes: This is the first and second volumes from the series on Memphis from the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, Memphis I and Meydum and Memphis (III).
These antique volumes are bound in red half-cloth with printed paper covers. There is moderate spotting and toning to the paper covers, with light fraying at the edges of the cloth. The bindings are solid. The bookplates of former owners are affixed to the front endpapers. The pages show light age toning with occasional light marginal spotting. These volumes are profusely illustrated with plates and diagrams.
