Description : Large Zoomorphic helmet mask, headdress of buffalo or bush cow from the Mama tribe in Nigeria. Mask is carved wood with reddish coating. Mask features elongated horns that form an oval shape, descending into pierced snout and open mouth. The horns and snout surmount a concave dome, hollowed out to accommodate the head of the wearer. Mask measures approx 30.5 inches in length by 9.5 inches in width by 4.5 inches in depth. Mask has surface wear consistent with age. Appears to be superficial crack along horns, as noted in photo.
