Description : Carved wooden helmet mask from the Makonde peoples of Tanzania, Africa. Note the wonderful worn patina and bold red stripe painted down the center. Such masks are known as Lipico and were worn during Initiations of young men into adulthood, with some reports stating that the initiates were to try to wrestle and remove the mask from a designated elder.
