Catalog Notes: In the Lobi culture wooden carved figures in general are called Bateba. Unlike other African cultures there are no specially trained carvers, anyone can learn to carve sculptures. While there are many special style of Bateba, the all considered to be living beings and are believed to act on behalf of the owner. They protect their owner and bring good things their way.
