Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: KWELE MASK - (Forest regions bordering Gabon, Cameroon and Republic of Congo) Worn to ward off evil and to activate beneficial forces and cause the spirits to manifest. This enigmatic carved wood mask has a broad protruding forehead, scarification and a second face on a rod surmounting the head. Unsigned. Condition good, wear to exterior as seen. Attributed to late 19th/early 20th century.
