It has braided straps use to help carry the basket. The present basket comes from the Kuba of tthe Democratic Republic of Congo . The Kuba  ,have a strong  ,tradition of wickerwork, particularly the production of such carrying baskets,  ,used by women to carry Foodstuffs and firewood.The basket is still in good condition,  ,but it is missing the strand that helps carry it. ,  ,
