An important Sumerian alabaster cylindrical jar with cuneiform inscription, Early Dynastic Period, c. 2500 BC, the vessel with wide flat base and narrow mouth with rounded rim and two lug handles. Between the handles on either side is a line of Cuneiform script. H: 3 7/8 in (9.8 cm), W: 2 3/8 in (5.7 cm). An interesting and important piece with attractive surface deposits. Ex-New Jersey private collection. The California Museum of Ancient Art was founded in 1983 to gather the first collection focusing exclusively on the Ancient Near East in Southern California.
