Description : 19TH C. FINE SAO KOTOKO STYLE EXTRA LARGE CAST BRONZE HORSE RIDERS SCULPTURE Primitive Art African Bronze Putchu Guinadji Rider Figurine - Sao / Kotoko - Cameroon / Chad. Lost wax method, from Benin kilns. Depicting three warriors with weapons and shields, a prisoner tied to one leg of the horse. Roughly 16 x 13 x 4. Very good condition, warm, buttery patina. The Sao were a loosely organized language group that formed a civilization which is now extinct and who occupied a geographical area that covered Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria, between the 12th and the 14th centuries.
