Description : Hornermaske helles Holz, min. Reste von brauner Patina, ein abgeflachtes Gesichtsfeld mit wohl ehemals nach beiden Seiten hin rund gebauchter Wangenkontur, sich am unteren Ende in einer flachen Schnauze mit erhabenem Nasengrat fortsetzend, nach oben hin bekront von einem Hornerpaar, das in flachem Bogen senkrecht nach oben wachst tubusformige Augen, besch., eine stark durch Insektenfrass und Verwitterung gezeichnete Oberflachenstruktur, sowie Fehlstellen, Windschliff, auf Sockel montiert, moglicherweise im Kontext des goli-Maskentanzes verwendet. Dieser wurde um 1900/ 1910 von den benachbarten Wan adaptiert und hat im Laufe der Zeit so an Beliebtheit gewonnen, dass er nahezu alle anderen Baule Maskentanze ersetzte. Er findet statt zur reinen Unterhaltung und bei Beerdigungsfeierlichkeiten von bedeutenden Mannern. Er wahrt einen ganzen Tag, schliesst das ganze Dorf mit ein und wird durch den Auftritt von vier Maskentypen mit spezieller Musik begleitet. Horned mask wood, small residues of brown patina, a flattened facial plane, originally both cheeks rounded (the left now missing), crowned by a pair of slightly curved horns, a protruding snout with ridged nose at the bottom, tubular eyes, insect caused damage and missing parts, strong traces of weathering, on base, probably used during the goli masquerade. This dance was adopted in 1900/1910 from their neighbours the Wan people. Today goli seems to be gradually replacing all other Baule mask dances. goli can be performed both as an entertainment and for the funerals of important men.
