This is the rating and price for Hemba Ritual Dance Rattle

Description : Africa, Shaba District on Lualaba River near Kongolo, Hemba culture, early 20th century. An elegant ritual dance rattle with three seedpods containing pebbles to create a percussive sound surmounted by a standing female elder figure holding her hands to her shoulders framing her breasts. Note the sculptor's attention to fine detail, ie the diamond-shaped and more organic palm frond-like scarification on her abdominal area, the elaborate coiffure, and tranquil facial expression. This is quite a rare object, and few examples are so carefully created. Beautiful patina to boot! Size: 11-3/4 tall, 14-3/4 on light gray painted wooden stand. Provenance: Ex-private Picard Collection, Mr. Pickard began collecting African art in 1959, following university study in Africa, Maurice Kamba collection, Uganda, collected in situ. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #101584
