Description : [ Judeo - Christian and Antiquities ] [COPTIC BIBLE LEAVES] Collection of three early Ethiopian Bible leaves, each 6.25in x6.75in Handwritten on goatskin with red illuminations, legend has it that these examples were obtained in Ethiopia by an African trader about the time of the withdrawal of the American Diplomatic Services. There are stitch marks along left margin where pages were once bound and hand stitched within a cover of clay tablets. Originating in Egypt, the Christianization of Abyssinia (Ethiopia) took place in the early fourth century and to this day the Ethiopia Church looks upon the Coptic Church as its Mother Church. Light to moderate toning, darkening toward edges, expected wrinkling, yet leaves remain attractive. MB:
