Description : This is a Wooden Tribal Sun mask, the piece is crafted by the EKET people of NIGERIA. The piece is possibly antique. The piece is colored in earthy tones, and measures approx 11.5 inches in diameter. There is some wear present on the piece due to age and use. African art, spiritual, spirits, sculptures, folk art, tribal art, arts and crafts, idols, totems, mantle accessories, shelf accessories. 9 The Eket are an Ibibio subgroup of farmers. Every village is ruled by a group elders and the heads of extended families. Their decisions are enforced by members of the ekpo society who act as messengers of the ancestors. Ekpo members are always masked when performing their policing duties. The local religion is one of ancestor-worship, worship of Ala the earth deity, and seasonal agricultural festivals.
