Size : 40-49cm longProvenance : Provenance: Property from a Dutch private collection, The Netherlands, formed in the 1960s-70s. Christie's, London, 10-11 July, 1974, lot 377. Said to have been in the collection of Flinders Petrie. Literature: Garnet beads were produced in Egypt from the Badarian period to the end of the New Kingdom. According to Carol Andrews, garnet was at its most popular in the Middle Kingdom and 'the Egyptian word for garnet was almost certainly 'hemaget': C.
