Paris: Antoine Dezallier, 1692 FIRST EDITION of the catalogue of a cabinet of curiosities assembled by Du Molinet to complement the library at the Abbey of Sainte Genevieve in Paris, many of the objects came from the collections of the scientist Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580-1637). The cabinet at Ste. Genevieve was rich in coins, medals and plaques, Greek and Roman sacrificial vessels, lamps, utensils, weights and measures, and Egyptian antiquities... The published catalogue... portrays an elegant, well-proportioned collection formed by a taste for order, clarity and sound learning, an abhorrence of the bizarre, and an indifference to gratuitous marvels -- William Schupbach, Some Cabinets of Curiosities, in Impey & MacGregor, editors, The Origin of Museums (1986), page 173-74. Hofer, Baroque Book Illustration 61 (an interesting early illustrated museum catalogue), Nissen ZBI 2861.
