Description : Of domed circular form, the crescent eyes with pierced slits, double notched brows above, slender nose and naturalistic mouth, a panel of concentric triangles carved in relief on each cheek, keloids in relief on each temple, grooved hairline, the flat rim about the face with ears in relief and with pierced zigzag border, surmounted by a cup-like superstructure with zigzag boder and notched rim, dark glossy patina, on Inagaki base 10in. According to Vogel such masks, representing natural phenomena (others represented the rainbow and the setting sun), were worn at the beginning of the Gbagba mask sequence to warm the dance space.
