Details: This lot consists of the antique engravings shown in the corresponding images.
These plates (numbers 18 and 43) have been excised from the third volume of Description de l'Egypte : ou, Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'expedition de l'armee francaise (published in 1809), which details Napoleon's expedition to Egypt. Attributed to Cecile (number 43) and Cecile/Balzac (number 18) in the lower margin, these engravings depict the ruins of Karnak with people and camels in the foreground.
This piece is from the holdings of Archaeologia Books and Prints. Established in 1983, Archaeologia was known for providing scholarly books of quality on the archaeology of Ancient Egypt, the Near East, Greece & Rome, and the Pre-Columbian Americas. Condition / Notes: These engravings, each measuring approximately 41 1/2 x 27, exhibit moderate foxing, minor chipping, and mild age toning, mainly concentrated at the extremities. The plates display minor creasing from being rolled.
