This is the rating and price for Dan Carved Wood Drum

Description : Drums were used in Dan tribal societies for rituals, education, and social control, as well as entertainment. The Dan believe that their world is split into the human domain, which is represented by the village and its people, and the spiritual domain, which is represented by the forest and its spirits. Masks were thought to embody the most powerful of spirit forces called gle. Each gle has its own character, and brought order and control to village life. When an individual wears a Dan mask, he becomes the gle of that mask, dancing to the beat of drums such as this and speaking in the language of the spirits. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum.A fantastic piece that's perfect for your collection!Measures approximately 19.5 x 16 with a total weight of 15 lbs.Piece has moderate wear throughout from ceremonial use and age.
