Title : CIMIER CI-WARA KUN Bamana, Mali
Medium : Bois.
Cf: Jean-Paul Colleyn & Alii: « BAMANA the art of existence in Mali' Museum for African Art (New-York) et Rietberg Museum (Zurich), 1987, figs.196 & 197. CI-WARA KUN HEADDRESS Bamana, Mali Wood. Ci-wara antelope headdresses usually appear in pairs, male and female, at agricultural competitions, festive performances and annual festivals. This female headdress carrying her child on her back is executed in a style characteristic of the ancient workshops of the Segou area, also used in anthropomorphic statuary and masks. For two such pieces, one collected in 1944, formerly in the Louis Carré collection, Paris, and now in the Rautenstrauch Joest Museum in Cologne (inv.no.43953) and the other collected by Charles Monteil in 1904, in the Musée du Quai Branly (inv.no.71.1908.7.2), see J-P.Colleyn & Alii, BAMANA the art of existence in Mali, New York and Zurich, 1987, figs.196 and 197.
