Description : Finely detailed hand carved decorative Chokwe Pwo or mwana pwo, the most popular dance mask among Chokwe culture. The face is covered in beautiful scarifications, the rattan braid acts as a face cover, the mask itself would lie on top of the head of the dancer. Ample amounts of wood raffia beads representing hair. Though representing a beautiful woman and the history of the founding female ancestors, these masks would be worn by men covered in fully braided fiber dress to hide their identity. Size 19 H on included custom stand Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.
