Description : African art. Ceremonial horn, Igala (?) Nigeria. ceremonial horn carved in bas-relief with figures of lizards. The fairly simple and rarefied decorative motif of these artifacts has its roots far back in time, in the ancient region of Calabar. An example of this production is kept in the National Museum of Ravenna (inv. 12066), while another, bearing the date 1599 added in Europe, is in the British Museum of London. Provenance: Parisian collection of the painter Arturo Carmassi (Lucca, 1925- Empoli, 2015). This piece was inherited from the French humanist and collector Renée Druart (Grasse 1888-1961) whose daughter Carmassi had married. . Cm 57,00.
