This is the rating and price for Blackburne-Maze, 1914.0
Description : Blackburne-Maze (Cecil Ireland). From Oriental to Occidental Africa, 1st ed., W.E. Thorpe, Maidstone, 1914, half-title, fifty-three mounted original gelatin silver print photos (approx. 10 x 7.5 cm), large folding linen-backed coloured map bound at rear, ex library (Maidstone Museum & Public Library) with ink classification numbers to title verso and bookplate to front pastedown noting this copy as presented by the author, December 1918, lacks front free endpaper, t.e.g., remainder uncut, orig. cloth gilt, a little rubbed and marked, white china ink library class marks to foot of spine, 8vo. Very rare account of the author's trip (October 1913 to April 1914), made with H.C. Lydford from Mombassa on the east coast of Africa to Banana on the west coast. 'Although there was very little hunting on the trip, the forest and the habits of the people were most interesting' (Author's Introduction). WorldCat notes four copies only, all in North American libraries. This is effectively a sequel to 'Journals of My African Travels' which recounted their safari to Uganda and Kenya, and was similarly privately printed for the author in 1913. Kenneth Czech, 'An Annotated Bbibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785-1999' lists only the 1913 work, (and for which WorldCat notes ten institutional copies). A very fresh copy in spite of library marks. (1)
