Description : North Africa, Morocco, Islamic, Berber Culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful, embroidered suede belt pouch with iron and brass fittings and decorative buckle. The cover flap is held in place with an iron fitting and button stud closure over the central compartment and narrow outer pocket slot. The bag is made from several layers of leather sheets that are sewn and reinforced together with iron corner fittings and rivet tacks. The exterior decorated with colorful floss embroidery threads in simple arabesque motifs. The bag is looped on a thick leather strap with an interlocking brass buckle clasp, with a repousse medallion featuring a mosque within an 8-pointed star. Condition report : Tearing around leather piercing for button closure. Small flaking to belt strap near buckle. Pitting and chips to brass and iron fittings. Discoloration and staining commensurate with age and use. Cover flap opens but pouch is stiff and inner pockets do not open wide. Pouch position on strap is adjustable and buckle functions. Suitable for light use and decoration.
