Description : This is a fantastic example of the masks created by the Bembe people. Referred to as shield like in their design, these masks typically have shield like carvings, concave oval shapes where eyes are located and some sort of protruding mouth. This, piece having all of those features, is truly an iconic mask from this culture. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America, and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum., Whether you are a collector with a keen eye or simply intrigued and excited about artistic cultural artifacts, this piece makes a magnificent addition to your collection! Piece is in good condition for its age, showing, signs of use with a very nice patina.
