Description : Carved shield with center face by the Basongye (Songye) people in Zaire (now Democratic Republic Of the Congo). Shield has tones of cream from kaolin, red, and natural dark tone wood, with etched face set in relief in center. Underside has carved handle. Measures approx 19 inches in length by 11.5 inches in width by 4.5 inches in depth. Mask has some surface wear consistent like scuffing, fading of paint.
