Description : Details: This lot consists of the antique linen map shown in the corresponding images. The title of this map, Plan of the town and environs of Jerusalem: Copied by Permission of Field Marshal the Marquis of Anglesey, K.G. G.C.H. Master General of the Ordnance, from the original drawing of the survey made in the month of March 1841, appears at the foot. The map depicts the topography of the region, as well as various buildings. Two insets appear at the head of the map, at the left, El-Kalah, and at the right, Detailed Plan of the Temple Area. Two lists are printed to the left and right of the map: Antiquities and Remains and Medieval Traditions & Modern Sites. This map was engraved by Joseph Wilson Lowry after a survey by John Frederick Anthony Symonds. Symonds (c.1815 – 1852) was a British Army officer and surveyor who carried out the first detailed survey of Palestine.
