Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A gorgeous example of an insectile scarab amulet that is hand-carved from a fragment of amethyst and polished to a lustrous sheen. Incised striations along the rounded topside create the retracted legs, folded wing carapace, and petite head with a narrow clypeus above the biconically drilled suspension hole. The topside as well as the unadorned bottom exhibit incredibly smooth surface textures that create an enjoyable tactile experience.
