Description : AN EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME CARTONNAGE PANEL PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 305-30 B.C. Painted with a broad floral collar with falcon-headed terminals, the kneeling figure of the goddess Maat below, wearing sun disc, extending her protective wings and holding maat-feathers, seated figure of Osiris holding was-sceptre on either side, the Four Sons of Horus below, either side of three columns of hieroglyphs reading "A boon which the King gives on behalf of Osiris-Yti (Sovereign), who is in the lakeland (Fayoum), that he may give a good tomb-equipment and a voice offering of bread, beer, ox, fowl and everything good, pure and sweet on which a god lives, for the Osiris Pa-di-Sobek, true of voice, son of Pa-di-Sobek, born of Ta-Tjekat, true of voice, with an offering of unguent and linen", Isis and Nephthys below, flanked by uraei, 20 x 12 in. (51 x 30 cm.) max.; a polychrome painted cartonnage fragment with winged figure of Isis holding maat-feathers, protected by wedjat-eyes either side, below a barque with Four Sons of Horus, panels with ankh and was-sceptres either side, 8¼ x 12 in. (21 x 30.5 cm.) max.; and another polychrome painted cartonnage fragment with six standing deities, including Isis and Nephthys, 14 x 4¼ in. (35.5 x 10.5 cm.) max., both Ptolemaic Period, 4th-1st Century B.C., all framed and glazed (3)
