This is the rating and price for Akwanshi (Ekoi/ Ejagham)

Description : Akwanshi Monolith (Eko/ Ejagham), Cross River area. Monolith, surface designed in relief. L. 42 cm. The reliefs represent portraits of deceased dignitaries and are meant to bring protection to the community. All of the African sculptures (lots 22 - 40) come from a large German private collection that has been assembled since the 1970s. The works were acquired in Dutch and Belgian galleries for African art or directly from collectors or from national and international estates. The collector couple were close friends with the Dutch collector and gallery owner Ger Lambregts in Amsterdam. Around 30 objects from the collection were exhibited in 2013 in the Art of Africa exhibition at the Fondazione Kriester in dialogue with sculptures by the artist Rainer Kriester (1935-2002) from the Viaggio in Africa series in Vendone/Italy. Provenance: estate private collection, Jülich.
