Description : East Africa, likely Ethiopia, ca. 9th to 10th century CE. A hefty earthenware potter's anvil engraved with script around the lower body edge. The profile is pestle or mushroom shaped with the upper knob serving as the grip, and the rounded for supporting the inside of a vessel as the potter beat the clay into shape with a paddle. The writing along the side may be Ge'ez script to indicate ownership. Size: 2.75 L x 2.75 H (7 cm x 7 cm) This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
