Description : Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kwilu River Region, Pende Peoples 20th century. Incised unusual form bulbous vessel with crosshatching and linear designs to the container with two protruding section that secure the twine for the lid which is also strung with the same twine and reveals a circular thin spout, the base beautifully incised with an intricate geometric pattern and sunburst like symbol. The Pende people are renowned for their artistic expression, especially their masks and sculptures. They create a variety of art used for rituals, ceremonies, and performances. These art is often characterized by bold geometric patterns, strong lines, and contrasting colors. Size 3 3/4 W x 3 3/4 H Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnograpic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
