Description : Property from the Estate of David Rapkin Description: African Doll, pre 1940, and 3 Figures, comprising a carved wood Biiga Abstract doll, likely Mossi, Burkina Faso (8 1/8 in., age cracking), a seated female figure, probably Lobi, Burkina Faso (7 in., age crack across chest, wear to surface), and a male figure, probably Lobi, Burkina Faso (7 1/4 in., wear to surface) Provenance for all of the above: Exhibited African Art in Unlikely Places: The David Rapkin Collection, University of Nebraska, Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, 2012, the abstract doll purchased from Sujaro Gallery of African Art, San Francisco, 2011, who acquired it from Dalton-Somare Gallery, a prestigious tribal art gallery based in Milan, Italy. It was examined by a panel of experts at the 2011 San Francisco International Tribal Arts Show and determined to be authentic, dating from prior to 1940, and another standing male figure (9 3/4 in., some minor cracking to wood), all with associated stands. Measurements: Height: of Mossi doll, 8 1/8 in. x Width: 1 7/8 in. x Depth: 2 1/4 in. Condition: Overall good condition, general surface wear, see description.
