Description : Circa 3rd Century A.D. The central medallion embossed with a facing head of Medusa, framed by a plain wire, a twisted wire and a flat flange, a single granule and a loop on either side, the open loop-in-loop chain with a ribbed cylindrical collar at each end, both terminating in a hook (one modern) designed to join the loops at the side of the medallion 183/4 in. (47.6 cm) long NOTES Necklaces with Medusa medallions were common in Egypt during the Roman Period. The type is frequently shown being worn by women on funerary portraiture.
