These thumb pianos are finely crafted musical instruments used in many ceremonial functions, including dance, storytelling, and other rituals. This example is made of fine grained wood with several metal keys to be plucked with one's thumbs, hence the term thumb piano. In very fine condition and playable - rich shiny, dark brown patina from years of handling and use. Playable and creates lovely tones, containing bits of rock that rattle to produce a percussive rhythm with the player's movement.
